HIA — AI Medical Metahumans

Brought in during COVID to solve a problem that was both urgent and deeply human: doctors were overwhelmed, people were scared, and the friction standing between a patient and a virtual medical AI was too high to matter when it counted most.

HIA had the right idea — an AI-powered virtual doctor — but the delivery was broken. Users had to find and install an app. The AI wasn’t accurate enough for healthcare-grade trust. Content creation was slow, manual, and locked behind technical walls. I made a bet that made everyone nervous: abandon Unity entirely and rebuild the full pipeline — both the content creation tooling and the end-user experience — on the web using Three.js and Angular.

Six months later, adoption had grown 6x. Not through marketing — through removing friction. No install. No barrier. Just access.

Content creation was simplified, streamlined, and opened to external creators for the first time, dramatically accelerating what the platform could offer. And to unlock the platform’s true potential in healthcare, I led the foundational work on HIPAA and SOC compliance — establishing the security and data governance standards required to integrate with Electronic Health Records and handle sensitive patient data. That compliance groundwork wasn’t just a checkbox; it was the key that opened the door to serious healthcare partnerships.

The improved accuracy, accessibility, and reach of the new system ultimately led to a partnership with WebMD — delivering an interactive educational video player and AI system to one of the most trusted names in consumer healthcare.
